And it’s native! Pinxterflower shrubs grow in woodlands across the Eastern US, often along streams. Ruby-throated Hummingbirds and Eastern Tiger Swallowtails visit the flowers.
In the Coastal Plain, Pinxterflower could easily be confused with the Piedmont Azalea, Rhododendron canescens (which is actually uncommon in the Piedmont). The similar Piedmont Azalea is found around wetlands, has lighter pink flower tubes, and has glandular hairs on the flower tube that secrete an oily substance.
